Self-hosted screen sharing — Windows Client shares; Agent views in the browser

Secure Desk screen sharing is remote support on a relay you run, not a meeting product. The Windows Client shares the screen. The Agent (technician) views and controls in a browser console. It is not Google Meet, Zoom, or Adobe collab share — there is no meeting room, no guest gallery, and no vendor cloud in the middle of the pixels.

Who shares, who views

Product vocabulary matches the docs: the Client is the Windows machine receiving support — it captures and shares its desktop. The Agent is the operator giving support — they open the console in a browser, view the stream, and (when Control is gated on) send mouse and keyboard. Both ends dial out to the relay you host.

Not a meeting or collab share

Searchers looking for “screen sharing” often mean Meet, Zoom, Teams, or Adobe collaboration. Secure Desk is not that. It is attended or enrolled remote support and web VDI: one Windows desktop at a time on your relay, with end-to-end encryption (requireE2e), a 6-digit SAS, and ciphertext only on the wire.

Windows endpoints; Linux is the relay host

Shipping endpoints are Windows only — portable attended exe or Access service. Linux is the relay/portal host in the docs, not an endpoint OS. The browser is the technician console only; there is no macOS or Linux Access client as a shipping product.

Free Starter caps; relay still needs 80/443

Free keyword means free Starter only: 1 operator, 1 concurrent session, 3 enrolled Windows devices, self-hosted relay — not unlimited free SaaS. Endpoints dial out (no inbound on machines you reach); the relay you host still needs ports 80/443. Not a remote Explorer. Sign-in and lock yes; UAC and Ctrl-Alt-Del (CAD) no. Access is not RDP/RDS. Control (attended input) defaults off until you gate it on. Quality presets top out at 15 / 12 / 8 fps. If you record, it is a technician-local WebM from the console — not server-side recording.
